The Short Version
Your Hinty history is local-first and also syncs to your Hinty account so you can continue on another Mac. Original attached files stay on the Mac where you added them.
We collect the minimum account, billing, and usage metadata needed to run Hinty. We do not sell your data and we do not use your prompts, screenshots, or transcripts to train AI models.
Who We Are
Hinty operates the Hinty macOS application and the website at hinty.app. For privacy questions or data-rights requests, contact privacy@hinty.app.
If you are in the EU or UK, this also serves as the data controller contact for requests related to your personal data.
What We Collect
Account information: email address, a unique account identifier from Clerk, and, if you sign in with Google, your name and profile picture.
Billing information: Stripe handles payment details. We receive subscription lifecycle events, billing country, card brand, last four digits, and expiry, but never your full card number.
Usage metadata: request counts per user per day, app version, OS version, timestamps, request IDs, and token counts for rate limits, billing, support, and abuse prevention.
AI request content: when you ask a question, the text, screenshots, visible-screen context, and AI response pass through our API and selected model provider. Conversation history and screenshots are stored with your Hinty account so they can sync across devices until you delete them.
Meeting content: Meeting Mode streams audio to Deepgram for transcription. We store transcripts, summaries, decisions, and action items with your account. We do not store raw meeting audio.
Attachment content: original attached files stay on the device where you added them. Extracted text may be used locally as AI context; attachment names and metadata may sync so the history view can show that files were attached.
What We Do Not Collect
Hinty does not upload original attachment files. If you attach a PDF or document, the file bytes remain in the local app data folder on the Mac that uploaded it.
Meeting Mode audio is streamed for real-time transcription and is not stored by Hinty after the live transcription flow.
Hinty does not monitor your keystrokes, clipboard, browser history, or background screen activity.
How We Use Data
We use data to authenticate users, route AI requests, enforce plan limits, process billing, send transactional emails, prevent abuse, and improve reliability through opt-in crash or diagnostic reports.
We do not sell your data. We do not use your prompts, screenshots, or Meeting Mode transcripts for advertising or model training.
Sub-Processors
Clerk provides authentication and user identity. Stripe provides payment processing and subscription management. Neon stores account and billing metadata. Vercel hosts the website and API endpoints.
OpenAI provides generative AI model processing. Deepgram provides real-time speech-to-text for Meeting Mode. Each provider receives only the minimum data needed for its function.
Retention
Conversation history, screenshots, meeting transcripts, summaries, and related metadata remain in your account until you delete the item or delete your account. Local copies remain on your Mac until you remove them from the app or clear local app data.
Usage counts and billing records may be kept for up to 7 years where tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, or legal requirements apply. Account records are kept for the life of the account plus 30 days after deletion.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict processing of personal data. You can request these by emailing privacy@hinty.app.
You can clear local history inside the app from Settings > Profile. Deleting local data on one Mac does not automatically delete synced account history, subscription records, or billing records held by our processors.
Security
We use transport encryption, provider access controls, least-privilege service credentials, and operational logging to protect the service.
No internet service is perfectly secure. If you believe you found a vulnerability, email security@hinty.app and include enough detail for us to reproduce it.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product changes. If a material change affects how we collect, use, or share personal data, we will update this page and, where appropriate, notify users by email or in-app notice.
